How to contribute subtitles in another language

We’d love these evangelistic videos to be accessible to a broader audience. If you know a language other than English then you could be a great blessing to others by adding subtitles.

This short guide explains how to translate the subtitles easily.

If you scroll to the bottom of each video post there’s a box containing details about translating, sharing and embedding that video. Click on the orange 'Add subtitles...' link. This will open the community contributions section of YouTube allowing you to add subtitles to that video.

Below is an example of what one of these boxes looks like. These are found at the bottom of each video page.

Below is a helpful guide explaining how to add subtitles

Selecting the language

If you were to click on the orange 'Add subtitles...' link you’d be taken to the subtitles panel which looks like this:

If you’re not logged into a google account already you’ll be prompted to sign in before you get this screen. Any Google account, Gmail or YouTube account will work.

Then click ‘Switch Language’ to change the language that you would like to translate into

In the dialogue box that appears click the drop down button

Search for your language

Click ‘Set Language’

Entering subtitles

We’ve selected Spanish as an example:

Enter your translation below each line. Translating the English that is directly above

Tick the ‘Credit my contribution’ box if you would like your name to appear in the credits in the description of the video

When you’ve finished click ‘Submit contribution’

Submitting the subtitles

After clicking 'Submit contribution', this dialogue box will appear:

Select ‘Yes – they’re ready to be reviewed’ if you’ve completed subtitles for all of the text

Click submit

That’s it. If the subtitles were on one of the Go Chatter videos then we’ll be notified. We’ll spot check the translation with Google translate – just so we know we’re not publishing gibberish. Then we’ll publish your translated subtitles and many people watching the video will be able to benefit from reading along in their own language.

Thank You
