Real lives: The Olympian

Double Olympic silver medallist Debbie Flood shares her story.

It’s fair to say that Olympic rower Debbie Flood can be classed as an extremely successful athlete. Having competed in four Olympic games, Debbie holds two silver Olympic medals and three World Championship Gold medals.

However, in this video, Debbie chats about how her successes and medals come second to knowing Jesus and following him. While medals cannot come with us when we die, our relationship with God is something that WILL have significance in eternity:

“I am more than my medals…rowing is not my identity – being a child of God is who I am.”

Possible Discussion Questions

  • How much emphasis do you think you place on winning, or being successful in life?
  • Do you think God wants us to be successful? – In what ways?
