What Does The Bible Say About Sport?

How can we use sport for good, to worship God?

Thousands of Christians around the UK play sport every week. Just think of the numbers involved: 15.74 million adults play sport weekly – that’s about a third of adults in the UK.

God may not have created the specific games that we play, but He did create us to swim, jump, kick and catch. He gave each one of us different talents and gifts. Romans 12:1-2 urges us to ‘offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship’. That means that sport is an area of life that can be offered to God as an act of worship.

Are you a Christian who plays sport or are you a Christian in sport? That all depends on the way you play. Play hard, play fair, and play to his glory – after all, it is worship.

So, if you love sport, and are a follower of Jesus, get out there, and play!
