A 21st Century Christmas

Do you box Jesus up like a present under the tree, or recognise him as your only hope, the one who lasts forever, even when Christmas is over?

Description

Is Christmas time just about mistletoe and wine?

Using rhyme and thoughtful prose, Rael James Mason exposes the danger of a 21st century perception of Jesus, the baby that stays the manger and never gets to the cross. Christmas traditions might be nice, but they can't distract us from or deal with the real struggles of life.

What do you think the 'real Christmas' is, beyond the tinsel and snow?  What are your emotions: doubt, laughter, curiosity or a hint of anger at the baby that claims to be God?

Do you box Jesus up like a present under the tree, or recognise him as your only hope, the one who knows your pain and lasts forever, even when Christmas is over?

Possible Discussion Questions

  • What do you think about the claim that the 'baby in the crib' is the Son of God?
  • How does this good news about Jesus 'last forever, even when Christmas time is through'?
