The story of Jesus through the journey of water

Emerge Screenshot

If we started playing a word association game with the word ‘Easter’, you could say ‘Egg’, maybe even ‘Annual Leave’? It may take you a few goes before you come up with ‘Water’.

But when we follow the story of Jesus we see that water plays a cameo role in the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life. From baptism to Jesus’ first miracle, how about when he was in a boat out at sea and he told a storm to put a sock in it?

This is the story of Jesus through the journey of water. But because of the Easter weekend, Jesus’ story can become our story too. We can be raised to new life through the power of his resurrection.

I invite you to get immersed in the Easter story. May you emerge changed

Allow me to share with you, my most favourite story
It’s about the life of a man who lived as most holy.
From the right hand of the Father, to the crib he descended
To grow up and give up, so brokenness gets mended.
For us to be part of the family, as God’s adopted son or daughter
So let me tell you about Jesus through the journey of water.

First meet John his cousin
Likes locusts, honey he licks,
Proper spiritual like and a bit of an eccentric.
He clears his throat and he pipes up loud
“turn around, to the one who’s love knows no bounds.”
So some got baptised but see John was just sent
As the warm act to proclaim the main event.

Ent…er Jesus
Who John baptises
Straight out of the water Jesus arises,
And with a voice from the clouds God fills us in…
He says, “this is my son and I’m chuffed to bits with Him!”

Next he’s at this wedding and the red wine run’s dry
To be fair it was a bit embarrassing for the Father of the bride
So Mary the mother, gives Jesus the hintage
And from water to wine – he miracles a vintage!
The guests are loving it, they’re having a blast
They couldn’t believe they saved the best wine till last!

A bit later in a boat, it’s chucking it down
A storm out at sea, ‘are we gonna drown?’
Think Jesus’ mates, is this really their fate? See they’re all freaking out
Meanwhile Jesus is having shut eye and he’s out for the count.
Waves thrashing, water rising, boat sinking
“How’s He kip through this?” Jesus buddies are thinking.
Til…(Yawn)
“What’s the problem?” asks Jesus
“What’s all the fuss?”
Says ‘Shush’ to the storm and there descended a…hush.

Next a new scene, but similar scenery
Pete and his buddies, rowing out at sea
they spot someone out there, they’re all scared witless
Jesus walking on water – doing the miraculous.
At first they flip out, they fly off the handle,
Til Jesus says ‘it’s me’ as he rings out his sandal.

Then gathered grievers, all mourning in masses
As a friend of Jesus, called Lazarus passes –he dies.
Jesus sees the brokenness and tears fill his eyes
And with suffering surrounding him, says…
‘Lazarus’ – ‘Rise’

Then the bit of the story that fills us with dread
When Jesus gave up his life and lowered his head
When darkness descended
A perfect life savagely ended
Where’s all this talk of the brokenness mended?

Through love gritted teeth, he proclaimed ‘it is finished’
And with one final cry out he gives up his spirit
Then proof of the pudding – that our saviour had died.
There gushed out blood water, from a spear in his side

Then a tear in the temple curtain takes away the divide
His followers and friends, must’ve been beside…
themselves – the hope of brokenness becoming mended, with his death has just ended

Til Everything gets upended
Three days pass and water flowed plenty
From the tear ducts of Mary by the tomb that was empty
‘What’s wrong?’ asks the gardener – then imagine her surprise
To notice not a gardener – just Jesus – Alive!

He kicked off his mission with a water baptism
Lived, then he died to free us from the prison
Of our sin and ourselves, all our shame and division
And it’s paid for, it’s dealt with because He is risen

Our mess has been buried, we can now be forgiven
Our lives resurrected, through Jesus who’s risen
through the 3 day baptism, we can emerge from the water
to be part of Jesus’ family – as God’s adopted son or daughter.

So when we come to the perfect son who lifted the curse
He gives us living water that will forever quench our thirst

What words do you associate with Easter?

What do you make of this living water that can forever quench our thirst?

There are over 100 videos on this site available for free. We’re very grateful for the organisations and churches that have kindly given permission for their videos to be available free for you to download.

However, there are hundreds of individual Christian creators and smaller charities who would love to create video content but can’t afford to make it free to download. The reality is that even a relatively simple video takes a long time to create. It requires lots of time scripting, planning, filming, editing and promoting as well as the use of expensive filming equipment and editing software.

Go Chatter Videos would love to be able to channel funds to Christian creatives, enabling them to continue making great videos that resource churches, youth groups and schools. Paying a small amount for this video ultimately means more videos for churches in the future.

Don’t worry, we won’t be removing the videos that are free on the site. Actually we would like to offer a wider number of videos in the future, some which would be free and some paid for. We hope to have hundreds more free videos soon and hundreds of paid videos. This will give churches and individuals a greater variety of videos they can download whether free or paid, and encourage the Christian creative industry by helping to fund more videos.
