Remembrance Day Spoken Word Poem
This creative poem by Glen Scrivener explains why the hopeful epitaph ascribed to World War One, "the war to end war", was always doomed to irony. History demonstrates, and our own experience corroborates, that the problems which lead to war begin in the human heart: "The pressing question./What can halt inborn aggression?". If war is to cease, our hearts have to change. The wonderful news of the gospel speaks of the God of Peace, who became "a walking, talking armistice" so that he might offer us a truce with God. If we accept "forgiveness for our battles fought", we can start to experience peace with God, forever.
